Abstract

The expansion of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and the development of digital platforms have led to an increase in transactions within the collaborative economy, whose scope has expanded into digital commerce, connecting more people and businesses globally and facilitating the large-scale exchange of products and services. The aim of this research is to identify the business and governmental conditions necessary to lead a high level of internationalization of companies from Latin American countries through the collaborative economy business model. The theoretical foundations of this study are based on social economy, circular economy, and sustainability. The methodology used to achieve the stated aim is qualitative comparative analysis (QCA). Based on the comparative study, six Latin American countries are analyzed. The results indicate that the analyzed countries need to invest in key areas to foster economic and digital growth, such as access to and quality of ICT, service digitization, digital skills, the governmental regulatory framework, and the implementation of e-commerce, as these bring benefits and social values that favor the adoption of the collaborative economy and the internationalization of businesses.
